Khordha: Causing a picnic trip to turn tragic, over 30 passengers were hurt with two of them critically after a bus carrying them hit a truck on NH-16 near Godipada toll gate here last night.
The mishap took place late in the night while the bus namely ‘Jay Hanuman’ of Bhadrak based Sahu and Sahu Travels was en-route to Tara Tarini temple in Ganjam district for picnic.
It is suspected that, the driver of the bus was driving under the influence of alcohol and hence failed to spot a truck travelling ahead on the highway and ended up hitting that from behind. The impact of the collision was so intense that the bus got completely mangled from the front leaving 30 passengers out of total 35 on board injured.
Some locals swung into action immediately after the crash and sent the injured to Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a 108 ambulance. Two of the injured were later rushed to a Bhubaneswar hospital due to critical condition.
Police have seized the mangled bus and started investigation into the case.
