Odisha Vigilance raids properties of Ex-Constable

Bhubaneswar: The vigilance sleuths on Thursday conducted a raid at houses and property of Ex-Constable of Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar on the allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to his sources of income. The GPTA has been identified Prasanna Kumar Behera, son of Sadananda Behera.

Reportedly, the sleuths conducted a raid at various places in Bhubaneswar and simultaneous searches carried out at Behera’s house at Kalpana Square on the strength of search warrants issued by Hon’ble Court of Special Judge,Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

As many as five teams led by two DSPs, five inspectors and other officers have conducted the raids at five places, added reports.

Till the last reports came in, Residential Quarter no. G-12-Police, Kalpana Square & it’s extension building, Spark Furniture Pvt. Ltd, located at Dumduma, Furniture Work shop located at Santhavihar Lingipur, South City Bar located at Patrapada, double storeyed building at his native Village Nuapada in district Khordha.

The Spark Furniture Show room at Dumduma, Khandagiri on plot bearing area around 0.250 acre has been registered in 2019 at a consideration value of Rs 1,47,67,000. The actual market value is much higher. The showroom built up area is around 18000 square-feet both Ground floor and basement included. The approximate cost of the building is estimated to be over Rs 2 Crores.

The Vigilance Technical Wing has deputed to carry out valuation of buildings. The Vigilance Finance Wing and Vigilance Forest Wing personnel along with professional furniture manufacturer roped in for valuation of huge number of costly furniture items displayed in the showroom.

The source of purchase of plot and construction of showroom and furniture items will be thoroughly probed.

It is pertinent to mention that Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash on Sunday dismissed Constable Behera from service with immediate effect. He was arrested for operating a bar in Patrapada area illegally by violating the COVID-19 guidelines.

During the investigation of senior journalist Naveen Das’ son Manish Anurag death case, the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate found that Manish and his friends had been to the South City hotel in Patrapada, which was running till late night in violation of COVID guidelines of the State government.

This apart, a video showing Behera dancing inside the bar had also gone viral following Manish’s death.

The Tamando Police Station IIC was also shunted on Friday for dereliction of his duty as the bar comes under the Police Station limits.
