Odisha private bus owners withdraw proposed strike

The All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBOA) has withdrawn its proposed strike in protest against the LAccMI scheme.

Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBOA) has withdrawn its proposed strike in protest against the  Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme.

The private bus owners decided to withdrawn the strike following a successful discussion with Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu today.

The association, which had gheraoed the State legislative assembly on November 22 to press for the fulfillment of its demand, had announced to launch an indefinite strike from December 1.

Speaking about today’s meeting, the transport minister said, “The state government is committed to provide transportation facilities to the people at their doorsteps through the LAccMI scheme, which is accepted by both the people even the private bus owners. However, the bus owners have certain conditions.”

“They (officials of the association) discussed how they can run their buses in the route they are operating now most importantly from the blocks to the district headquarters. They will submit a written memorandum about it following which their demand will be discussed with the Chief Minister and steps will be taken accordingly,” she added.
