Odisha Mamita Meher missing: Govinda Sahu killed lady teacher inside car, says Northern Range DIG

Bhubaneswar: In the lady teacher Mamita Meher death case of Odisha, the Northern Range DIG Deepak Kumar briefed the press on Wednesday about the findings so far ascertained. It was a pre-planned murder and the lady teacher was killed inside the car, he informed.

The DIG informed that based on the statements, material evidence, technical evidence and scientific evidence, it has been ascertained that the accused Govind Sahu murdered Mamita Meher inside the car in a pre-planned manner on October 8.

When it comes to the motive of the crime he said that on the basis of investigation made so far, it has been ascertained that the deceased had some knowledge about the extra marital affairs of the accused Govinda Sahu and during some argument she had threatened to expose him, accordingly he had some grudge on her.

After evening on October 8, 2021 the deceased was carried to the mini stadium and her body was burnt using tyres and she was buried. On the next day morning the pit was filled as per the accused’s direction. The driver of the JCB that was used for the above purpose has been detained. His involvement in the crime is being investigated. This case is being supervised by senior officers. The case will be investigated on first track, the DIG said in the presser about the said crime.

Initially Police analysed the CCTV footage to ascertain movement of the accused. During the analysis Police verified about 70 hours footage before ascertaining his movement, he also said.

Balangir police had declared the accused Govinda Sahu as most wanted yesterday and made an announcement of reward Rs 1 lakh in his name. His photo was released as a poster by the police showing and was been circulated. Earlier on Tuesday, a charred body was found after digging up ground for an hour at the under construction mini stadium in Mahalinga. It is being suspected that the buried body is of the missing lady teacher Mamita Meher. A gold chain and a bag has also been found with the body.

The body has been sent for DNA test to ascertain information which might be helpful for the identification.

It is pertinent to mention that Mamita’s family members have alleged that Sahu was sexually harassing women employees of the school and forcing them to have physical relation with him. She was asked by Govinda to reach Sunshine Public School for a meeting following she went missing. Her family lodged a complaint with the police against Govinda and he was detained by the police for questioning.
