Odisha: Dacoit nabbed after police encounter in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A notorious dacoit was detained following an encounter with police near Garapur village under Aul police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Saturday.

The dacoit has been identified as Hrusikesh Mallick. He sustained bullet injuries in his left leg during the encounter and was admitted to the District Headquarter Hospital here.

According to report, Mallik and three others looted cash and gold ornaments from a house of one Nabaghana Parida of Juania village under Aul police limits in the district. Three members of the victim family were injured while protesting the crime. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

After committing dacoity, the armed dacoits moved towards Cuttack-Chandbali highway on a four-wheeler.

On being informed about the incident, Aul police chased the dacoits on Cuttack-Chandbali highway and asked them to surrender. The dacoits however whipped out their pistols and fired upon members of police team.

In retaliation, the police too fired in which Mallick was hit in his leg. However, three of his associates managed to escape. Police seized pistol, sharp weapon and a car from the spot.

Meanwhile, Aul police has begun an investigation into the matter and launched man haunt drive to nab the other culprits.
