Odisha: 2 die, 4 missing after drowning in Kharasrota River

Jajpur: In an unfortunate incident, as many as 2 persons died while 4 others went missing after drowning in the Kharasrota River on Friday. The incident took place near Badasuar Bandhamunda ghat in Jajpur district of Odisha.

According to reports, a group of youth went to take bath in the river after playing Holi. However, six of them went missing after drowning in the river.

Soon, the firefighters with the help of local people carried out a search operation to trace the missing youth. Later, a team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) joined the operation.

After a frantic search, they fished out the bodies of two youths, who have been identified as Subham Jena and Sambit Jena. However, four other youths-Krishna Jena, Rahul Jena, Rahul Jena, Karan Jena and Bablu Jena- are still missing.

The search operation was halted due to darkness and will be resumed tomorrow morning, said sources adding that the bodies of Subham and Sambit will be handed over to their family members after conducting postmortem tomorrow moring.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the locality following the tragedy.
