Cuttack: Continuing with its crackdown on history-sheeters, the Commissionerate Police arrested two wanted criminals after an encounter near River Kuakhai under Sadar Police Station area here on Sunday.
The arrested criminal identified as Sudhakar Patra alias Lipu and Manoj Moharana alias Mangu sustained injury during the encounter.
A special squad of the Commissionerate Police conducted a raid on the banks of River Kuakhai after the Sadar Police got a tip-off on the whereabouts of Lipu and Mangu early in the morning. Finding themselves surrounded by cops, the wanted duo tried to escape from the spot and opened fire at police in that bid. After police returned fire, the duo sustained bullet injuries on their legs and were caught.
Police also seized two pistols, 15 live cartridges and 10 mobile sets from the possession of the arrested criminals.
Lipu and Mangu were rushed to SCB Medical in Cuttack for treatment following the encounter. The duo was involved in Pratapnagari firing incident of March 4 this year, which left at least three youths injured.
