Nandankanan Zoological Park reopens today

Bhubaneswar: After remaining closed for nearly three weeks due to the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani, Nandankanan Zoological Park reopened for the public here on Tuesday.

The Zoological Park had been shut for visitors from May 2, a day before the severe cyclonic storm hit the Odisha coast.

Over 2000 visitors visited the city-based zoo today, the Zoo authorities said.

Sources said, several enclosures built for the animals and birds were damaged at the zoo, while hundreds of trees were uprooted due to the cyclone Fani.

The zoo authorities, however, carried out the restoration work on a war footing note aftermath the cyclone Fani.  Holidays of all the employees of the zoo had also been cancelled, sources added.

On May 3, the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani made landfall near Puri coast, causing huge damage to infrastructure and livelihood in 14 coastal districts in the state.
