Monsoon likely to reach Odisha by June 12-14

Monsoon will hit India's Southern Coast on June 8

Bhubaneswar: South-Western monsoon is expected to Odisha by June 12-14, a report by Indian Meteorological Department confirmed. While the onset was delayed it is expected to hit India’s Southern Coast on June 8.

The onset will mark the start of the four-month rainy season that is crucial for the country’s farm-dependent economy. Monsoon rains usually arrive on the southern tip of Kerala around June 1 and retreat from Rajasthan by September.

India is likely to see average monsoon rains this year, the weather office said last week, which should support agricultural production and economic growth in Asia’s third-biggest economy, where half of the farmland lacks irrigation.

The cloudy weather in the coastal areas of the state is due to a depression formed in North-West Bay of Bengal over Bangladesh. As per IMD, similar weather conditions will continue for three more days after which the temperatures are expected to soar once again.
