Bhubaneswar: The 15-year-old Leha Nayak, who was battling for life, has lost her battle as she breathed at around 3.53 PM today. She was undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
Leha Nayak is a native of Badasahi in Bamunigaon village of Odisha’s Kandhamal district. She is the eldest daughter of her parents – Sudarshan Nayak and Jayanti Nayak. While Sudarshan works as a daily worker in Surat of Gujarat, Jayanti is a housewife.
Leha was undergoing treatment at the government hospital for Abdominal TB and later was reportedly infected with COVID-19.
With her death, a pall of gloom descended on Bamunigaon village as the entire villagers and several well-wishers were praying for her recovery.
Leha had some stomachache last year. Thinking that she might be having some gastric problem, her mother Jayanti gave her some tablets after purchasing them from the medicine store. However, as she could do not get well, her mother took her to the Bamunigaon Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Leha did not recover and her stomach gradually started to swell.
Jayanti, who has all alone as her husband was in Surat, was unwilling to shift Leha to a better hospital for her further treatment due to financial crisis. But a group of women from the village and local police station IIC Dasarth Hembram arranged around Rs 20,000 for her and advised Jayanti to take Leha to some hospital in Berhampur. Some local youth and noble-hearted people also had extended some financial help for her treatment.
Recently, Jayanti took Leha to a private hospital in Berhampur for treatment. In the meantime, she had urged her husband to come back with some money so that the couple could give their daughter better treatment.
Sudarshan came back to Odisha and the poor couple spent around one lakh rupees at the private hospital for Leha’s treatment. After five days of treatment at the concerned hospital, they decided to shift her to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as her health condition worsened further. She was put in the ICU for observation after her operation. Unfortunately, and shockingly she passed away this evening just a day after her surgery.
Meanwhile, he thanked each and everyone who either directly or indirectly supported her treatment financially and prayed for her. He also has asked people not to send money to his account anymore as Leha has died and requested them to send the same financial help to people who are in need of it.
