Man paraded after being tied to truck: OHRC takes suo motu cognizance, asks SP to file probe report

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Tuesday took the suo motu cognizance of the case in which a man was paraded after being tied to a truck in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district.

The OHRC also has directed the Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police (SP) to file a probe report within 15 days.

The man who is said to be a resident of Tikarpanga area in Kendrapara allegedly stole a mobile phone from the truck and escaped from the spot. Later, other truck drivers caught him and tied him to the front portion of the truck after garlanding him with footwear. They drove the vehicle on a bridge over the Mahanadi river at Bhutamundai under Paradip police limits of the district.

Video of the incident was captured by an unidentified person. The clip went viral after it was shared on the social media platforms.
