Low pressure area likely to become more marked during next 48 hours

Bhubaneswar: The Low-Pressure Area over coastal areas of south Odisha north Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood is very likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Monday.

Currently, it lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height.

The monsoon trough now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Damoh, Pendra Road, Balangir, and center of Low Pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast and thence southeastwards to Eastcentral Bay of Bengal extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The east-west shear zone now runs roughly along 20°N tilting southwards with height between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level across North Peninsular India persists.

A warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in different places for the next 5 days:

Day-1: (Valid up to 8.30 am of July 12)

Orange warning (Be prepared)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, and Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Nuapada, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Sonepur, Puri, Khordha and Balasore.

Day-2: (Valid from 8.30 am of July 12 up to 8.30 am of July 13)

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and Angul.

Day-3: (Valid from 8.30 am of July 13 up to 8.30 am of July 14)

Heavy to very heavy (7 to 20cm) rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Bargarh.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Rayagada.

Day-5: (Valid from 8.30 am of July 15 up to 8.30 am of July 16)
