Low pressure area: IMD issues wind and fishermen warning in Odisha

As per the latest bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low pressure area over south Andaman sea & adjoining Malacca strait moved westwards and lay over south Andaman sea at 8.30 PM today.

Bhubaneswar: As per the latest bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low pressure area over south Andaman sea & adjoining Malacca strait moved westwards and lay over south Andaman sea at 8.30 PM today.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around 30th November, 2023. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over southwest & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours.

Wind warnings:

  • Under the influence of anticipated above system, squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over central Bay of Bengal adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal from 1st December 2023 and is likely to become 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on 2nd December. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough.

Fishermen warning:

  • Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from the morning of 1st December and whoever out at sea are advised to return to coasts by 1st December.
  • The fisheries & ARD department will ensure communication of warning/ alert messages to fishermen. Also f & ARD Department will furnish the status of fishermen & boats plying in the sea and the details of boats & fishermen returned regularly.
