Jan Satyagraha Padayatra: Over 300 farmers taken into preventive custody in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a preventive measure, Keonjhar Town Police took around 300 farmers of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NKSS) including women into custody from Keonjhar Railway Station today while they were heading to Bhubaneswar to take part in ‘Jan Satyagraha Padayatra’.

As per the report, the farmers were arrested while waiting to board the Keonjhar-Bhubaneswar Fast Passenger Train. The co-ordinator of of NKSS Subash Panda was also taken into custody by police from the spot.

Many farmers who were coming from Kuakhia in Jajpur and Balugaon in Khordha district to attend the foot march were also stopped by the police, says reports.

During the 8-day ‘Jan Satyagraha Padayatra’ by NKSS which is scheduled to start from today, over 36 lakh farmers in the state will demand fair price, pension and prestige. Farmers from Kuakhia in Jajpur and Balugaon in Khordha will also join the gathering of around 3 lakh farmers in Bhubaneswar on November 5.

The agitating farmers are demanding a security allowance of Rs 5000 per month for all the farmers in the state along with an annual budget allocation of Rs 21,600 crore for them by the Odisha Government.
