I-T raid on Congress MP enters 4th day, Rs 300 cr recovered till now, 19 bags seized in Balangir

Bolangir: The Income Tax department raid enters fourth day and is still continuing. During the raids at different places in the last three days, the officials of the I-T department have recovered around Rs 300 crore unaccounted cash linked to Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu in Odisha.

A 5-member I-T analysis team have reached Bolangir today from Hyderabad and have started a probe. The experts have investigated at Sudapada and Titilagarh manufacturing units. One team also visited the Bolangir SBI branch where recovered cash is being counted.

Around 19 bags have been seized from the manager house working in the Sudpada distillery unit in Bolangir district. The seized money was put in several bags and carried in a pick-up van to the SBI branch in Balangir amid tight security for counting.

Earlier, 156 bags filled with cash were seized from Sudapada distillery unit and was taken to a nearby branch of State Bank of India for counting.

As many as 15 counting machines are engaged in the exercise and if required will increase the number of employees. Till now Rs 55 crores have been calculated and the process is still on.

A senior SBI official in Sambalpur said that the counting is on in two of its branches in Bolangir branch and Sambalpur following request from the Income Tax officials.

The counting started on Thursday and may continue on Saturday as well, the official said.
