Fodder scam: Lalu Yadav gets 3 and half years in jail, Rs 5 lakh fine

Ranchi:  Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to 3 and half years in jail in a fodder scam case by a Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here on Saturday.

The court has also imposed fine of Rs 5 lakh on him.

Other accused including Phool Chand, Mahesh Prasad, Bake Julious, Sunil Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Sudhir Kumar and Raja Ram have also been sentenced to 3 and half years in jail and Rs 5 lakh fine each.

Lalu Yadav and 15 others were convicted in a fodder scam case. They were found guilty on Dec 23 last year for illegal withdrawal of more than 89 lakh rupees from Deoghar treasury between 1991 and 1994.

This was the second sentencing for the RJD Chief, as he had already been sentenced in another case of fodder scam.

Yesterday, Lalu Yadav’s lawyer Chittaranjan Sinha prayed for lighter sentencing citing his poor health condition.
