Angul: A major mishap was averted after a firecracker-laden vehicle caught fire during Kali Puja immersion procession in Hemasurapada area in Angul district yesterday.
As per the report, the mishap took place while Hemasurapada Puja Committee was carrying out the procession with hundreds of people watching and fireworks were being conducted at DIC Chhak. Sparks from the exploded firecrackers fell on a firecracker laden auto-rickshaw leaving it on flames.
While bystanders immediately swung into action and fled from the spot to and save their lives preventing any mishap, the auto got completely reduced to ashes in minutes due to explosion of the firecrackers.
Later, the blaze was brought under control by firefighting efforts of locals and puja committee members.
Police have rushed to the spot of late for investigation.
