Bargarh: Bhatli police on Saturday busted an extortion gang and arrested three persons. Police said that the gang members used to extortion huge amount of money in the name of Maoist organisation since 2014.
The accused have been identified as Dolagobinda Sahu (40), Balaram Sahu (24) and Batakrushna Sethy (59). Police have seized cash of Rs 1.65 lakh from the accused.
Police said that the gang used to target mostly government servants and contractors for extortion. “The used to demand between Rs 30000 and Rs 3 lakh as protection money. Further investigation revealed several forest officials of paying them protection money. We are further verifying their antecedents,’ said a police official.
