Explosives Seizure: Kolkata Police arrests another accused from Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Expediting probe in the illegal arms seizure incident which took place at Tala Bridge in Chitpur area of neighbouring West Bengal State last Saturday, the Kolkata Police today arrested another accused from Basta of Balasore district today.

The held accused has been identified as Sukant Sahu. He was nabbed by the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police from his village.

On March 9, the STF intercepted a truck carrying around 1000 kg of potassium nitrate, a substance used in making explosives, stored in 27 gunny bags at Tala Bridge when it was heading to 24 Praganas. After seizing the truck the cops arrested the driver Indrajit Bhui (25) and helper Padmalochan Dey (31), both are residents of Basta area.

Later, based on the information provided by the duo, cops managed to arrest Sheikh Rabiul (40) who was going to receive the consignment.

Since potassium nitrate is used in fertiliser and in making gunpowder, its trade is regulated.
