Anandpur: An elderly woman sustained critical burn injuries in a fire which broke out from a hearth at her home in Naha village under Soso police limits in Keonjhar district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Minati Nayak, wife of Budhia Nayak of the same locality.
As per the report, Minati was basking in the hearth fire at the veranda of his house in the evening when her saree accidentally caught fire. Before she could do anything the fire spread to the roof of the thatched house leaving her critically burnt in the blaze.
Family members of the victim doused the flames with the fire brigade officials from Hatadihi later and rushed Minati to Anandpur Sub-Divisional Hospital with 70 per cent burn.
Local police have lodged a case in connection with the incident.
