Cuttack: Muslim community celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with religious fervour and gaiety across the state on Saturday. Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations mark the end of the holy month of Ramzan, also known as Ramadan.

Special arrangements have been made for the elaborate Eid celebrations in places where Muslims constitute a sizable section of the local population. These places include Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore.

On this auspicious occasion, Muslims wear new attires, sport skull caps and hold mass Namaz prayers at idgahs and mosques and thank Allah at the end of the month-long fasting. Later, they exchange greetings by hugging one another. They also relish sweet dishes with people of other religions.

Eid starts the month of Shawwal, which begins with a feast to end the period of fasting. The day celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramzan. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended his greetings to one and all.
