Cricket betting racket busted in Rourkela; 2 bookies held, Rs 31 lakh seized

Rourkela: The Plant Site Police here has busted a racket involved in betting during the ongoing World Cup Cricket-2019 match and arrested 2 bookies.

Police also seized Rs 31 lakh in cash along with 16 mobile phones and a number of calculators from the spot during the raid.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team carried out the raid at Janata Nibas Lane near Daily Market where a betting round on the Bangladesh and Afghanistan match was underway. The match was underway at Rose Bowl, Southampton.

While the bookies duo has been put under interrogation to extract more information on the racket operated by them, cops are planning more such raids in the Steel City.

Notably, during the last Indian Premier League (IPL) matches the Plant Site Police had busted a betting racket at Nala Road area and arrested three persons. Rs 9.04 lakh cash, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets had been seized from the spot at that time.
