Covid test for MLAs, staff of Odisha Assembly from Nov 28

Bhubaneswar: All the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), staff and other senior officials will have to undergo Covid test from November 28 to November 30 before the commencement of the upcoming Winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

As per the decision taken in a meeting chaired by the Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, RT-PCR and Anti-body tests of the legislators, staff and other officers will be done in a special counter.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with a medical team will collect the swab samples of all the MLAs, staff and other officials. Only those who would test negative for coronavirus will be allowed to participate in the Assembly proceedings, informed the Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro.

He further said that the legislators will have to remain in home isolation after the completion of the Winter session.

MLAs and staffs will be able to attend the proceedings of the Assembly winter session from the Speaker’s Gallery, Public Gallery and from Lok Seva Bhawan.

A decision will be taken regarding the duration of the assembly at the all-party meeting on the November 29.

Earlier the Speaker had said that during the question hour or during the speech of the Odisha’s Governor, no member shall be allowed to create ruckus in the house.

The winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence from December 1 and will continue till December 31. According to the schedule, the winter session will have a total of 26 working days. The house will also meet on all days excluding Sundays and December 25 (Christmas).
