Rayagada: Dampening the spirit of ‘Kartik Purnina’ celebration, an engineering student met watery grave in Nagabali river under Rayagada sub-division today morning.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Behera of Muniguda area.
As per the report, Suman along with two of his classmates had been to the banks of Nagabali river near Jhulapola bridge to sail miniature vessels to mark Kartik Purnima when the mishap took place.
Due to carelessness the victim slipped into the river and swept away by the prevailing strong current in the water.
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out Suman’s body from the river post an Herculean effort of 2 hours.
A pal of gloom has descended on the deceased’s village following the mishap.
