CMC Health Squad destroys 2.5 quintal stale food at Bali Jatra

stale foodCuttack: Launching a crackdown on unscrupulous vendors busy in selling unhygienic food to the visitors during Bali Jatra, the Health Squad of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) raided at least 50 stalls at the Bali Jatra Ground here today and destroyed 2.5 quintals of stale food.

Two teams of the squad which took part in the crackdown conducted raids at both the lower and the upper Bali Jatra Ground and examined food joints serving thunkapuri, chat, dahibara, gup chup and other popular food stuffs. While stale food items were destroyed by the CMC workers on the spot, the kiosk owners involved in selling them were warned against repeating the mistake.

The health squad members also destroyed a huge cache of substandard spices, oil and food colour additives and checked the FSSAI licences of the food items.

“The whole Bali Jatra ground has been divided into 16 bits and 8 zones. 15 Sanitary Inspectors, 6 Jamadars and 130 cleaning workers of CMC have been engaged on duty to keep a watch on the standard of food items being sold here. We destroyed the stale foods in front of the visitors today and the crackdown would continue in the coming days,” said a health squad official.
