Childline stops marriage of 16-year-old girl in Cuttack

Cuttack: Timely step by childline officials and the district administration stopped child marriage of a 16-year-old girl in Koliatha village under Mahanga area here yesterday.

As per the report, family members of the victim girl of the same village had fixed her marriage with one Rajanikant Jena (32) of Sankha village of Jajpur few days back and the marriage was being held at Kapileshwar Mahadev temple yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off on the child marriage, a team comprising of International Human Rights Council Odisha State Board president Sasmita Das, Cuttack childline coordinator Narayan Shukla, Biajay Laxmi Mohaptra of Aswasti Foundation reached the spot along with Mahanga Police stopped the marriage.

Later, members of both the bride and the groom families were taken to Mahanga Police Station for registration of a case and were told to appear before district child welfare committee in connection with the incident today.
