Celebrations galore as Bhubaneswar turns 71 today

Bhubaneswar: Amidst election fever, the No. 1 smart city of the country Bhubaneswar is celebrating its 71st Foundation Day today with much pomp and gaiety.

While, government offices, BMC and BDA buildings along with other key establishments were decked up in adorable look to mark the occasion this morning, a number of cultural programs have also been planned till the evening.

Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and CM Naveen Patnaik have expressed their heartiest greetings to the denizens of the capital city and wished for their prosperity.

The Governor in his message to Bhubaneswar residents dubbed the city as a place of rich tradition and heritage. He appealed the denizens in the smart city to work towards making it a clean and beautiful place.

Similarly, CM Naveen Patnaik took to his twitter handle to post greetings for the foundation day of the ‘Temple City’ and claimed the development of the infrastructure had made the smart city a unique place in the country.

Notably, after independence, the foundation of the new capital was laid by Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 April 1948. The city had been designed by German architect Otto Königsberger.
