BMC Constitutes Two Squads To Implement Polythene Ban

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today constituted two enforcement squads to implement plastic/polythene enforcement in the city. The squad comprises of officials of the State Pollution Control Board, Commissionerate Police, Forest Department and BMC.

BMC officials said that the enforcement will start from Thursday and the two enforcement squads will have responsibilities like seizure of banned plastic and polythene materials, imposition of penalty and fines, issuing show cause notices and pre-announcement on not to use plastic/polythene within the BMC area.

The squads will be assisted by two policemen during the raids. BMC in an official order today has asked officials concerned to extend all support in coordination with the squad members for effective enforcement on polythene/plastics.

The squad will impose penalty penalty under the “Plastic Waste Management Rule 2016”. The state government had earlier announced to ban plastic and polythene in the state from October 2 last year on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
