New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Bhartruhari Mahatab was honoured with the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award for 2017 here on Wednesday.
President Ram Nath Kovind honoured the Lok Sabha MP from Cuttack with the award at Central Hall of the Parliament House in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Mahatab, who is also BJD’ Parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha, had earlier won the Sansad Ratna Award-2017.
Manipur’s Governor and five time Rajya Sabha member Najma A. Heptulla (2013), BJP’s Lok Sabha member Hukumdev Narayan Yadav (2014), Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad (2015) and Trinamool Congress’ Dinesh Trivedi (2016) were the others who also received the award.
Notably, Chrandra Shekhar of the Samajwadi Janata Party was the first member to receive the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award which was established in 1995.
