Bhitarkanika National Park reopens for visitors from today

Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park here was thrown open for visitors starting from today after a three-month closure for mating and nesting of estuarine crocodiles.

The park which remained closed from May 1 this year witnessed a record number of 103 nesting of saltwater crocodiles. The number remained at 101 last year.

In a good news for the nature lovers, the Bhitarkanika authorities have made arrangement for entry to the park through Chandbali this year which is in addition to the rugular Khola and Gupti routes.

Notably, more than 50,000 tourists visit the Bhitarkanika National Park of 145 sqkm every year. Boating, saltwater crocodiles, resident and migrant avian species as well as a huge variety of mangrove species remain to be major attraction of this Park.
