Ailing elephant calf rescued from Dhenkanal forest

Dhenkanal: Adding to the growing incidents of jumbo incursion in the state, forest officials rescued an ailing elephant calf from Hitinda forest under Hindol Forest Range in the district last night.

The incident came to light after some locals spotted the baby elephant late last night lying in the forest in critical condition and called up forest officials.

A team of officials comprising of Forest Officer Sudarshan Patra, ACFO Jeetendra Nath Das, Hindol Ranger Madhusudan Patra, and Forester Bikram Sethi reached the spot immediately and rescued the calf.

“The condition of the rescued elephant calf, which is 8-9 months old is critical. After preliminary treatment by the local Veterinary officials we are sending the calf for better treatment to Bhubaneswar,” informed forest official Sudarshan Patro.
