Koraput: In a crackdown on drug peddlers, Machkund Police today seized ganja weighing 40 kg from a SUV during a raid in Lamtaput area of Koraput district.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off on the ganja consignment which was being transported in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle in the morning. After a police team chased and tried to intercept the vehicle at Lamtaput Chhak, the peddlers tried to give them a slip by driving away.
Later, as the SUV met with an accident near Sagar, the peddlers fled from the spot by leaving it behind.
Police seized the vehicle subsequently and recovered the ganja consignment.
While police suspect hand of some local youths in the illegal drug trade, efforts are on to trace the absconding peddlers.
