3 prawn farmers hurt in attack after refusing to pay extortion money

Balasore: At least three persons sustained critical injuries after some miscreants attacked them over a dispute on prawn ‘gheri’ in Inchudi area under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district last night.

The attack took place in Pahi area under Inchudi, mostly populated by members of Bengali community after the victims refused to pay hefty extortion money to run prawn farming in the locality.

As per a complaint filed by the victims at the local police limits, the miscreants had earlier demanded a ransom of Rs 5000 per fishing pond which the residents had declined to pay. Infuriated over the refusal the attackers barged into several houses late in the night and attacked residents with sticks. They also ransacked the valuable items kept in the houses and damaged bikes.

They attackers even didn’t spare women and misbehaved with them during the heist, informed a victim.

Police have reached the spot and launched an investigation into the attack.
