Bhubaneswar/Begunia/Jajpur: At least three persons were killed and one sustained critical injury in separate road mishaps which struck the state since last night.

In state capital Bhubaneswar, tension prevailed on Jaydev Vihar-Patia Road this morning after a speeding truck mowed down a doctor.

Identified as Basant Rout, the doctor was passing the road at OMFED Square when the driver of a private bus namely ‘City King’ bearing registration number OD 02 AQ 3183 ran him over.

Angry locals attacked the bus and damaged it following the incident and demanded deployment of traffic personnel at the spot, which happens to be a sensitive point. They claimed due to the absence of traffic personnel at the OMFED Square accidents are happening on regular intervals.

Police reached the spot and pacified the angry mob later in the day.

In a similar incident in Jajpur district in the wee hours today, a Tata Ace vehicle rammed into a dumper from behind near Panikoili area leaving one dead and one critical.

The injured has been admitted to Jajpur DHH in critical condition, following the accident.

In another road accident, a man was killed after a bus ran over the bike he was riding on from behind before Bolagarh College near Begunia in Khordha district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Rout of Chuda village.

Angry locals blocked the Khordha-Balangir NH-57 protesting the incident and brought down the vehicular traffic through the route to a grinding halt.
