21 kg ganja seized in Khordha, 4 peddlers held

Khordha: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal drug traders in the district, police seized a SUV carrying ganja weighing over 21 kg by conducting a raid near Khordha Collectorate and arrested at least four peddlers yesterday.

The held peddlers have been identified as Sapan Kumar Mohapatra (23), Jagyandatta Panda (21) and  Sachin Sahu (23) of Kandhamal district and Manoj Kumar Barisal (24) of Khordha district.

As per the report, a night patrolling team of Khordha Model Police Station under Sub Inspector BK Behera had been deployed on duty near the Collectorate when tried to detain a suspiciously moving Maruti Suzuki Breeza (Registration Number-OD02BE2828) along with a Bajaj Pulsar bike (Registration Number-OD32E1696).

While the accused managed to escape from the spot by driving away they were intercepted and caught post a brief chase on Khordha Patnaikia road near Pokhari Chhak. During the search of the vehicle, the drug consignment was found and seized.

At least three numbers of mobile phones, Voter Identity Card and Rs 400 cash was seized from the possession of the held peddlers.

Cases under the relevant Sections of NDPS Act have been lodged against the accused and they have been forwarded to court.
