Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old boy drowned to death after falling into river near Amarang village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Premanand Khatua, son of Kailash Khatua of Badaekatali village.
The victim who was pursuing his study in Class II by staying in his uncle’s house was returning home from school last afternoon when the mishap took place. Spotting a few of his friends taking bath in the river near Amarang ghat, the victim went to join him and drowned after slipping into the river water.
While some bystanders rescued the boy from the water and rushed to Anandpur Sub Divisional Hospital, he died under treatment there.
Police have lodged a case of unnatural death in connection with the case.
