Puri: Around 10 rooms were gutted and a number of cattle sustained burn injuries in a fire which broke out at Chandapada village under Brahmagiri block of Puri district last night.
As per the report, sparks erupted at one Sonali Bhatt’s house in the village late in the night while all her family members were asleep and spread very rapidly to the neighbourhood.
Till the victim family woke up and launched firefighting efforts the flames had engulfed nine more houses and a couple of cattle sheds leaving a number of cows injured.
Valuable assets including furniture, electronic goods and vital documents were reduced to ashes in the mishap.
Later, fire services personnel from Brahmagiri rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the villagers have demanded compensation to the affected families who have been rendered homeless.
