The Uganda cricket team has secured a historic qualification for the T20 World Cup 2024, marking their debut in an ICC tournament. The team clinched the 20th and final spot in the upcoming tournament, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the United States of America in June next year.

Uganda’s journey to qualification unfolded during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023 held in Windhoek of Namibia. Facing challenging opponents, Uganda’s standout moment came, when they achieved a stunning victory over Zimbabwe, a Test-playing nation and the 11th-ranked team in T20Is. This triumph, a five-wicket win, marked Uganda’s first-ever victory against a full member side in T20Is.

Dinesh Nakrani played a pivotal role in Uganda’s successful campaign, delivering an impressive bowling performance with figures of 3/14 against Zimbabwe. In the batting department, Riazat Ali Shah and Alpesh Ramjani’s contributions were instrumental in securing the historic win.

In the final showdown against Rwanda, Uganda displayed dominance by bowling out their opponents for just 65 runs and later chasing down the target with 9 wickets in hand. This victory solidified Uganda’s qualification for the T20 World Cup 2024.

The participating teams in the T20 World Cup 2024 now include West Indies and the United States of America as hosts, along with Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Oman, Nepal, Namibia, and Uganda.
