Pakistan qualifies for Hockey World Cup 2018 in Odisha

Hockey World Cup, BhubaneswarBhubaneswar: Pakistan men’s hockey team will visit Bhubaneswar next year after it qualified for next year’s World Cup despite its poor show in Hockey World League, thanks to the results of the ongoing European Hockey Championship.

The Green Shirts, currently ranked 14th in the FIH Hero World Rankings, finished at seventh position in the Hero Hockey World League Semi-Final, held in London.

However, the results of the European Hockey Championship, currently taking place in Netherlands, have been in favour of Pakistan, with all four of the semi-finalists having already qualified for the World Cup, 2018.

The Mens’ Hockey World Cup is slated y to be held in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, from November 28 to December 16, 2018.

Pakistan becomes the 13th team to qualify for next year’s global event, joining host nation India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Netherlands, Spain, and New Zealand.

Pakistan has a tremendous record in World Cup, winning four times in 1971, 1978, 1982, and 1994 — more than any other nation.
