Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami receives Arjuna award from President Droupadi Murmu

Ace Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami received the Arjuna award by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.

In recent news, ace Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami received the Arjuna award by the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday. Notably, his outstanding performance in ODI World Cup 2023 prompted the Board of Cricket Council in India to recommend his name.

It is noteworthy mentioning that Mohammed Shami was not named in the playing XI for the initial four games of the ODI World Cup 2023. It was only after when Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the series that Shami was brought in.

Shami took down five wickets in his very first match in the World Cup series against New Zealand. There was no stopping Shami after that! In the entire series, he single handedly took a total of 24 wickets.

Notably, a total of 26 sports persons received the Arjuna award for their performances in their games in 2023.

Arjuna award is the second highest sports award in India after the Khel Ratna award. Today on January 9, 2024, India President Droupadi Murmu awarded all the 26 athletes at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
