Hardik Pandya to lead Mumbai Indians in 2024, Rohit Sharma’s 10-year-captaincy comes to an end

Hardik Pandya is going to lead Mumbai Indians as captain in IPL 2024, taking over the 10-year captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

Indian star cricketer Hardik Pandya is going to lead Mumbai Indians as captain in 2024 Indian Premiere League (IPL), taking over the 10-year captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

Hardik led Gujarat Titans to win IPL 2022. He was traded back to Mumbai Indians after two years.

Speaking about the giving of captaincy to Hardik Pandya, Mahela Jayawardene said, “It is part of legacy building and staying true to Mumbai Indians philosophy of being future-ready. MI have always been exceptional leadership right from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who while contributing to success have always had an eye in strengthening the team for upcoming years. Keeping with this philosophy, Hardik Pandya will assume captaincy of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024.”

Hardik Pandya led Gujarat to the IPL title in 2022 in their debut season, and was the Player of the Match in the final against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2023, GT made the IPL final for the second time in as many seasons, where they finished runners up to Chennai Super Kings.
