Mohali: In the opening match of the ODI series between India and Australia at Mohali, Australia has set a challenging target of 277 runs for India to secure victory in 50 overs. Australia made 276 runs in the first innings, loosing all the wickets. David Warner showcased his prowess, amassing the highest runs with an impressive 52 in 53 balls.

Mohammed Shami emerged as the star performer for India, clinching a five-wicket haul while conceding 51 runs in his 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with one wicket each, contributing to India’s efforts.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bowl first against Australia. This three-match series, also scheduled for games in Indore and Rajkot, stands as a crucial platform for both teams to assess and refine their bench strength and strategies, especially on Indian pitches.

India, captained by KL Rahul in the absence of key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav in the first two matches, faces a significant challenge and an opportunity to test their squad depth. Rahul will be supported by Jasprit Bumrah as his deputy.

On the Australian side, the return of stalwarts Steven Smith, Pat Cummins, and Glenn Maxwell fortifies their lineup, bolstering their competitive edge.
