Australia overhauls squad midway T20I series against India, sends 6 players home

Veteran batter Steve Smith and spinner Adam Zampa have already headed back to Australia. More players are also set to follow the suit.

Australia is all geared up for the crucial third T20 match against India in Guwahati. It is noteworthy mentioning that the Australia team has overhauled their squad midway of the T20I series against India.

Veteran batter Steve Smith and spinner Adam Zampa have already headed back to Australia. More players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, and Sean Abbott are also set to follow the suit, flying back to Australia tomorrow.

Travis Head, the hero of the World Cup final for Australia, will be the lone member from the World Cup squad to stick around for the remaining T20 series matches. He is the only member from the Australia World Cup team after the squad overhaul. Additionally, Tanveer Sangha, a key spinner in the T20 series and part of the reserves for the World Cup squad, will continue to be in action.

After the overhaul in squad, the revamped Australia squad for the upcoming matches looks like the following:

Matthey Wade (c), Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Chris Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Ben McDermott, Josh Philippe, Tanveer Sangha, Kane Richardson.

On the Indian side, Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead the team for the T20 series, with Ruturaj Gaikwad as the vice-captain. The squad further includes Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Shaqrma (w/k), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar. Shreyas Iyer will be playing in the last two matches.

With these changes, both the teams are set for an exciting face-off in the series deciding third T20 game.
