True Love: Kolkata Man Played Violin For 17 Years To Raise Money For Wife’s Cancer Treatment

In this modern era of tinder romances and one night stands, the story of a 77-year-old man and his love for his cancer-stricken wife will make you believe that true love still exists.

Well, we are talking about 77-year-old violinist Swapan Sett, a resident of Balaram Dey Street in Kolkata. Social media users are heaping praises on Swapan for his dedication and loyalty to his wife.

According to sources, Swapan’s wife was diagnosed with uterus cancer in 2002. With no other source of income, Swapan decided to earn money by playing the violin, his hobby. Wearing a white kurta and dhoti, he travelled across India to play the violin and raise funds.

Not for one or two years, Swapan continued to struggle for 17 years. Finally, his wife recovered from the deadly disease in 2019.

Swapan’s struggle came to the limelight after a video of him playing the violin outside a shopping mall in Kolkata was shared on Facebook earlier this month.

The Facebook post caption read, “He is Swapan Sett, a painter, sculptor and violinist and has his studio in Balaram Dey Street Kolkata. In 2002, his wife was diagnosed with uterus cancer and for her treatment which was expensive, he used his art to collect funds for the treatment and travelled to various places to play the violin and do sketching. His wife is normal now and leading a healthy life, he still travels in different corners of the city to present his art. Also he gives flying kisses for free to anyone who stand and see him play”.

Now, the Facebook post has garnered over 6,600 likes with netizens praising the elderly man. Everyone loves the video and some even wished to learn violin from Swapan.
