Bhubaneswar: In the Ashram neither match box nor lighter is used to light a lamp. Rather the holy lamp is lighted with fire that is made in a natural way in the ancient way

People in the Old Stone Age took a huge leap in the then social development after knowing the use of fire. Time passed and today in the modern world we have match box or lighter, which are popularly used to make fire.

Yet, there are religious places even in this twentyfirst century, where fire is made in the ancient way. Such a place is in Khordha district of Odisha. Kalinga TV reporter Raja paid a visit along with the camera team to cage the astonishing act of lighting fire the ancient way in an Ashram in Daruthenga area. Here is a report.

It was the Nabanna Utsav at the Sri Sri Govind Baba Mahima Gaadi in Daruthenga area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on September 21, 2023 when Kalinga TV Digital team reached the Ashram. The team had prior information about this rare way of burning fire.

Saints of different age groups and devotees were present in the Ashram for the Nabanna Festival when the ritual of making fire took place.

The chief saint of this Mahima Ashram first gripped a flint stone and a small piece of wood in the left hand and then hit the stone with a metal to get a spark. After a few attempts he managed to make fire that caught the wood piece. Then a bunch of straw was put on the wood and the combination was swung. Within no time fire was produced which was used to light a ghee lamp that was placed nearby. Amid chant of ‘Alekh Niranjan’ for this rare act, the saint then took the lamp and placed it at its designated place.
