Baripada: In the latest incident of man-animal conflict in the state, a woman was trample to death by a wild tusker in Jamunti village under Karanjia Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Sarmistha Mohanta.

As per the report, the victim was on its way to gram panchayat office where she worked as a guard when the pachyderm attack took place. The tusker which had sneaked into the Karanjia Forest Range three days ago pounced on the victim and trampled her to death in minutes.

Locals recovered the body of the deceased later in the night and called up forest officials.

The villagers have expressed their anger over the incident and alleged that the forest officials are not doing enough to drive the jumbo out from the area.

Notably, the same tusker had trampled a 50-year-old man to death in neighbouring Dumuria village on Tuesday. The deceased identified as Rabindra Mohanta was on his way to work when the jumbo struck. Villagers had blocked the road between Karanjia and Jashipur in protest to the incident at that time.
