New Delhi: 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian’s exemplary work, which he had done in 2007, was highlighted in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo, while speaking at the house during the discussion about the economic situation of the country, reminded the members that VK Pandian was the first person to introduce the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program in India.

“In the 2007-08 financial year, VK Pandian was the first collector to introduce the DBT in India. He introduced the DBT for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) project in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Ganjam district. This is how Odisha shows the path to the nation,” Deo said.

She further said, “While the central government speaks about the use of DBT, there is no banking facility in 4500 Panchayats of Odisha. Even many places do not have internet connectivity. In view of this, the Odisha government has begun the “AMA Bank” scheme to provide banking services at all the Panchayats of the State.”
