In a horrific case, a 17-year-old girl from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped by 13 men including her boyfriend and his accomplice for two days in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.

Visakhapatnam: In a horrific case, a 17-year-old girl from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped by 13 men including her boyfriend and his accomplice for two days in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.

According to police, the victim who is a native of Kalahandi district in Odisha had moved to Visakhapatnam with her family only nine months ago and was working as a maid in a government employee’s house.

The victim was alone in her employer’s house and was taking care of the pet when the entire family members went on a vocation.

On December 17, she went to RK Beach with her boyfriend. However, her boyfriend brought his friend with him and they both raped her at a lodge. Shocked and ashamed over what happened to her, the girl went to the beach and was trying to commit suicide.

It is during this time, a beach photographer who spotted her alone and offered to help. But later, he took her to a lodge, where he along with his accomplices raped her, said police adding that the minor girl was subjected to sexual assault for two days between December 17 and 19. She managed to flee from the clutches of the gang and went to her native village in Odisha.

However, the matter came to light only after the Fourth Town police started an investigation based on the missing complaint filed by her father on December 18.

In course of investigation, police took the girl to Visakhapatnam and registered two cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on December 31 based on her statement.

Police also arrested 11 accused while the search is on for two others in Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma has sought details of the case through a letter to Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Ravi Shankar.

Several women’s organisations also demanded stringent punishment for the accused persons.
