Omicron Variant: Scrutinization Of Foreign Returnees Underway In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha is on high alert relating to the recent Covid-19 variant ‘Omicron’ which has already started spreading its tentacles in India.

The foreign tourists and foreign country returnees arriving in Bhubaneswar are being scrutinized at the Biju Patnaik International Airport upon arrival.

The travelers arriving from overseas nations should stay in seven day quarantine and seven day  observation advised the Public Health Director of Odisha. 

The Health Director further cautioned that, ” The locals should inform the local administration about the returnees.” so that the tracing can be done and the spread of the virus can be contained in the initial phase. 

It is noteworthy that, the Delhi government has confirmed its first Omicron case, taking the number of cases of this new variant of Covid-19 in the country to five.

The patient has returned from Tanzania and now admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital.

Delhi minister Satyender Jain has confirmed the first case of the Omicron variant.

Till now, 17 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 has been admitted to the LNJP hospital. informs Jain.

This is the fifth case of Omicron reported in the India. The first two cases were reported in Karnataka. The third and fourth case were reported from Gujarat Jamnagar and Maharashtra’s Bombivli respectively.

Earlier, Delhi chief minister has urged PM Narendra Modi to stop the international flights in view of the new variant of Covid-19 Omicron.

The new variant of Covid-19 was first reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) from South Africa on November 25.
