Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind conferred Nari Shakti Puraskar to Odisha’s Sruti Mohapatra for the year 2021. The ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today.
Reportedly, she is a popular Disability Rights Activist. She was conferred with the award for spreading awareness regarding the rights of divyangs and her efforts towards their empowerment.

Notably, Sruti Mohapatra is the founder and head of Swabhiman (State Disability Information And Resource Centre), a registered non-profit and Odisha’s first cross disability organization.
Adding to it, she is the former Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights and also the current Member of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
She is among 29 people to be given the prestigious award for the years 2020 and 2021. The award ceremony for 2020 could not be held last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The felicitation ceremony will be part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrating 75 years of Indian independence.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development confers Nari Shakti Puraskar on women and institutions in recognition of their relentless service towards the cause of women empowerment and social welfare, and to celebrate women as game changers and catalyst of positive change in the society.
